The Green Mile: those who walk it do not return, because at the end of that walk is the room in which sits Cold Mountain Penitentiary's electric chair. In 1932 the newest resident on death row is John Coffey, a giant black man convicted of the brutal murder of two little girls. But nothing is as it seems with John Coffey, and around him unfolds a bizarre and horrifying story. Evil murderer or holy innocent – whichever he is – Coffey has strange powers which may yet offer salvation to others, even if they can do nothing to save him.

Stephen King: The Green Mile

A megosztott figyelem csodákra képes.

Brilliant…., My first Stephen King book, but not the last one. My favourite was of course Mr. Jingles :)

Romance doesn't die when you pass into the strange country that lies beyond eighty, but you can forget the Gone with the Wind crap.

I didn't doubt the story the others told me of Wharton's blank face and dull eyes when they told it, but that wasn't the Wharton I saw. What I saw was the face of an animal – not an intelligent animal, but one filled with cunning…and meanness…and joy. Yes. He was doing what he had been made to do. The place and the circumstances didn't matter.

Maybe Harry came closest when he said it would do no good to tell other people, not just because they wouldn't believe but because they wouldn't care.

Like Percy, Brad is a dimwit who thinks nothing is funny unless it's mean.
Something Brad said the other day struck me as actually smart, but I don't give him a lot of credit for it; even a stopped clock is right twice a day, the proverb has it. […] There are other sayings – not quite proverbs – that apply to Brad Dolan: „You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink” is one; „You can dress him up but you can't take him out” is another. In his thickheadedness he is also like Percy.

Smiling at me. Disliking me. Maybe even hating me. And why? I don't know. Sometimes there is no why. That's the scary part.

„[…] I'm visiting with Miss Jane Austen this week, and she's very good company.”
„Who's Jane Austen?” Harry asked whe she had left. „Your side or Janice's, Paul? A cousin? Is she pretty?”

Love among the ruins. It probably sounds funny to some of you and grotesque to the rest of you, but I'll tell you something, my friend: weird love's better than no love at all.
