The Kingdom of Gods (The Inheritance Trilogy 3.) 7 csillagozás

N. K. Jemisin: The Kingdom of Gods

For two thousand years the Arameri family has ruled the world by enslaving the very gods that created mortalkind. Now the gods are free, and the Arameri’s ruthless grip is slipping. Yet they are all that stands between peace and world-spanning, unending war.

Shahar, last scion of the family, must choose her loyalties. She yearns to trust Sieh, the godling she loves. Yet her duty as Arameri heir is to uphold the family’s interests, even if that means using and destroying everyone she cares for.

As long-suppressed rage and terrible new magics consume the world, the Maelstrom — which even gods fear — is summoned forth. Shahar and Sieh: mortal and god, lovers and enemies. Can they stand together against the chaos that threatens the Kingdom of the Gods?

N. K. Jemisin: The Kingdom of Gods

Egy istenség akarata ellenére kezd fokozatosan emberré válni, isten-társai* ráébrednek, hogy fontos nekik a halandó világ, sőt az egyes halandók sorsa, a világot kétezer éven át vaskézzel irányító dinasztia pedig próbál újjá lenni a káoszon, amelyet „szuperfegyvereinek” elvesztése okozott. Dióhéjban ezek a könyv igazán érdekes részei.

A zárókötet innen folytatja.

"As the Interdiction has shown us, the gods function perfectly well whether we believe in them or not, so why devote all that energy to a pointless purpose? Why not believe most fervently in mortalkind and its potential? We, certainly, could benefit from a little dedication and discipline.”

Chapter 5.

Mortal life is cycles. Day and night. Seasons. Waking and sleep. This cyclical nature was built into all mortal creatures by Enefa, and the humans have refined it further by building their cultures to suit. Work, home. Months become years, years shift from past to future. They count endlessly, these creatures. It is this which marks the difference between them and us, I think, far more than magic and death.

Chapter 13.

We have never needed prayers, but we do like them. They feel much like … hmm. Like a push, or a supporting hand on the back. Even gods need encouragement sometimes.

Chapter 14.

“Mortals are the sum of many things, Sieh. They are what circumstance has made them and what they wish to be. If you must hate them, hate them for the latter, not the former. At least they have some say over that part.”

Chapter 16.

That was always the nicest thing about having a newborn god around. They were willing to try things the rest of us were too jaded even to consider.

Chapter 19.

Back when I and the other Enefadeh had built this version of Sky, we had created this spiral staircase that led to nothing, twenty feet down to a dead-end against a wall. It had been a long day spent listening to bickering architects. We'd gotten bored.

„Those godling who dwell in the mortal realm do so on the sufferance of Lady Yeine. She has made it clear that she values mortal independence and is watching closely to see whether our presence proves detrimental. And please remember that she was once Darre. For all we know, Usein is some relative of hers.”
I shook my head. „She is not mortal anymore. Such considerations are meaningless to her now.”
„Are you sure?”
I paused, suddenly uncertain.
„Well then.” Ahad stapled his fingers. „Let's kill Usein and see. Should be a delight, pissing off someone who had an infamous temper before she became the goddess of death.”
