May Sage – Alexi Blake: The Cursed Crown

No one was ever born less suited to ruling than Rissa, the thorn of the seelie realm—a half-fae so wild she’s spent the better part of a hundred years in the woods.
For all her flaws, she’s the last of the high court bloodline, and the southern king seems to think that’s reason enough to slap a crown on her feathered head. He needs her to unify the seelie forces. She needs him to forget about that nonsense.
In an effort to aid her people without condemning herself to a lifetime of misery, she sets off on a journey to find the one person with a stronger claim to the throne than hers: the cursed prince.
Sealed in the mountains of the Wilderness, under many spells, the heir of the first seelie queen is the only royal strong enough to protect the fae lands from their immortal invaders.
Surviving the untamed tribes and awakening a thousand-year-old prince seem a lot easier than ruling an entire kingdom where everyone hates her very nature.

She couldn't make sense of it.
”Your body might be a little far, but it seems you've found your way to my bed all the same, princess." Rydekar chuckled. ”The question is why."
She narrowed her eyes.
”You're a smug bastard even in my imagination."

Rydekar be damned. If he messed with her libido, she'd have to murder him out of spite.

”Looks like it hurts like a bitch," the Bone Queen said, tossing her a deep golden flask.
”A healing potion?" Rissa uncorked it.

She was a mess, and it was all his fault.
Rydekar remained still and silent, only taking one bite of each dish.
And his eyes stayed on her. Cautioning. Cruel. Penetrating.

The words didn't cross her lips, but she pushed them to him, purposely reaching out to his mind.
A smile curved his perfect mouth.
You wish.
She'd never been closer to murder.

Rissa's smile were few and far between; the one or two times he'd seen her lips curve upward, he'd been fairly certain she was daydreaming about strangling him to death.
