Marla Cilley: Sink Reflections

Marla Cilley: Sink Reflections

The FlyLady program is not about cleaning. It is about changing your life to make it more rewarding and leading to a more important goal, to FLY, or Finally Loving Yourself.

I know that you don't understand why I want you to empty your sink of dirty dishes and clean and shine it when there is so much more to do. It is so simple. I want you to have a sense of accomplishment. (…) I just want to put a smile on your face. When you get up the next morning, your sink will greet you and a smile will come across your lovely face. I can't be there to give you a big hug, but I know how good it feels to see yourself reflected in your kitchen sink. So each morning this is my gift to you.

Decide what you can do to make you feel special each morning.
Each and every one of you is special to me! My goal is that you will feel this worth for yourself. If your outsides look good, your insides feel good. If your insides feel good, you can do anything!

Robert had a wonderful geometry teacher in high school. She taught him, „Anything worth doing is worth doing WRONG!” This is where I got my saying, „Housework done incorrectly still blesses your family.”

Do you hear your Mother's or Whoever's voice saying, „That's not good enough, you can do better than that. Go back and do it right!” It really didn't matter how nice a spin they put on it. The message came through loud and clear: „Anything less than perfect is unacceptable!” And the horrible extension: „Unless you are perfect, you are not good enough.” Or „Not Worthy of Being Loved!!!”
Is this what you sufferend with your whole life? Well, I have news for those voices in your head. We all fall short of the glory as the Bible says. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I'll bet you can identify with this too: when you were a child, you were told to go clean your bedroom. You would stand in the doorway with a puzzled look and your mother would fuss because you were doing nothing. Poor baby, you didn't know where to start and your mother had no clue what your problem was. So you have been told many times that you were lazy! This is the last time you will ever be reminded of this childhood nightmare. I know you are not lazy; you just need someone to give you specific instructions to get you moving.
