The Two Gentlemen of Altona (Playing the Fool 1.) 2 csillagozás

Lisa Henry – J. A. Rock: The Two Gentlemen of Altona

Mischief, thou art afoot.

Special Agent Ryan “Mac” McGuinness is having a rough week. Not only is he on a new diet, but he’s also been tasked with keeping Henry Page—the world’s most irritating witness—alive. Which is tough when Mac’s a breath away from killing the Shakespeare-quoting, ethically-challenged, egg-obsessed Henry himself. Unless killing isn’t really what Mac wants to do to him.

Con man Henry Page prefers to keep his distance from the law . . . though he wouldn’t mind getting a little closer to uptight, handsome Agent McGuinness. As the sole witness to a mob hit, Henry’s a valuable asset to the FBI. But he’s got his own agenda, and it doesn’t involve testifying.

When evidence surfaces of a mole in the FBI office, Mac and Henry are forced to go into hiding. Holed up in a fishing cabin, they’re surprised to discover that their feelings run more than skin deep. But as the mob closes in, Henry has to make his escape. And Mac has to decide how far… (tovább)

Lisa Henry – J. A. Rock: The Two Gentlemen of Altona

Lisa Henry – J. A. Rock: The Two Gentlemen of Altona

Sorozatnyitónak nem volt rossz. Mondjuk kimondottan érdekfeszítő sem volt.
A szereplők inkább idegesítettek, mint szórakoztattak, a cselekmény pedig semmi újat nem nyújtott.
Remélem a második része jobb lesz.

Oh, this was fun. Agent McGuinness was going to burst an important blood vessel if he wasn’t careful.

“I didn’t dig anything up on you. I was too busy running for my life. Can’t we both be from Altona?”
“It’s a town of two hundred people. I’d have remembered growing up around someone like you.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment. And no offense, but wouldn’t you have grown up way before I did? I mean, maybe you don’t remember me because I was still in diapers when you left for college.”
He nearly swerved into the other lane. Two drivers honked. “How old are you?” he demanded, looking at Henry. “Twelve?”
“Twenty-five.”
“Well, I’m thirty-one. So no, you wouldn’t have been in diapers when I left. Unless you required diapers well into your adolescence. Which wouldn’t surprise me at all.”

Mac tried not to be weirded out by the sight of Henry in his mother’s blouse. Paging Dr. Freud, indeed.

CsepAdri>!

“Whoa.” Henry held up his cuffed hands. “I don’t know what I said, but I’m sorry. You wanna lick some glaze off the bottom of the box? It might help with the mood swings.”

“The fire department won’t let us back in the office,” Jeff said.
Mac stared around the room. “Everyone know the game Rock, Paper, Scissors?”
Wary nods.
Mac straightened. “I want to teach you a version called Donut, Siren, Bureau. Okay?” He made a fist. “This? Represents the Bureau.” He twirled one finger in the air. “Wee-oo, wee-oo. This is siren. Represents the fire department.” He formed a circle with his thumb and forefinger. “And this is donut. It’s the local PD.” He turned to Jeff. “Now, Agent Cavill, on the count of three, I’d like you to make the donut. Hold out your hand; don’t be shy. Just like Rock, Paper, Scissors.”
Jeff tentatively put his fist next to Mac’s as Mac counted. “One, two, three—” Jeff made the donut. Mac kept his hand in a fist. “Look at that.” He struck Jeff’s donut with his fist. “Bureau crushes donut. Now this time, Jeff, make the siren.” Jeff closed his eyes briefly, but did as he was told on Mac’s three count. “Uh-oh, Jeff.” Mac used his fist to knock down Jeff’s siren. “Looks like Bureau crushes siren too. So if Bureau wants something from siren, Bureau tells siren to get the fuck out of the way. Are we clear?”

He headed for the door. Paused. “Jeff? Just for future reference. Do we let con men use our desk phones?”
“The situation hasn’t exactly come up before,” Jeff mumbled.
“But what do you think the answer is, based on what we’ve seen today?”
“No.”
“Okay. Okay, good.”

CsepAdri>!

“So what are you doing with Page once you catch him?”
“Doing?” Mac glanced at him. “Dragging him back to the office and interviewing him. Then running him over with my car and making it look like an accident.”

CsepAdri>!

Henry pointed. “Hit man,” he said between gasps. “Maxfield . . .”
Mac was already running after the guy. He ran kind of funny, with his elbows out like a chicken.

CsepAdri>!

“What the hell did you do to your hair?”
“At least I have options.” Henry shifted around to face him properly, cuffs jingling behind him. “What are yours? Glossy or matte?”
Dwayne had a sudden coughing fit in the front seat.
Mac shook his head and turned toward the window, fighting a smile.

CsepAdri>!

“How much of this stuff did you actually pay for?”
“Paid for the milk and the bread. And the pretzels, because they would have made too much noise under my shirt. But the tuna, the beans, and the toothbrushes . . . not so much.”
“As a federal agent, I want you to know I’m disgusted by your lack of respect for the law.”
“But you’re impressed too,” Henry said without turning around. “You’re disguspressed.”
“I am not disguspressed. Appalled, more like.”
