Lindsey Stirling – Brooke S. Passey: The Only Pirate at the Party

Dancing electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling shares her unconventional journey in an inspiring memoir filled with the energy, persistence, and humor that have helped her successfully pursue a passion outside the box.

A classically trained musician gone rogue, Lindsey Stirling is the epitome of independent, millennial-defined success: after being voted off the set of America’s Got Talent, she went on to amass more than ten million social media fans, record two full-length albums, release multiple hits with billions of YouTube views, and to tour sold-out venues across the world.

Lindsey is not afraid to be herself. In fact, it’s her confidence and individuality that have propelled her into the spotlight. But the road hasn’t been easy. After being rejected by talent scouts, music reps, and eventually on national television, Lindsey forged her own path, step by step. Detailing every trial and triumph she has faced until now, Lindsey shares stories of her humble yet… (tovább)

Lindsey Stirling – Brooke S. Passey: The Only Pirate at the Party

Lindsey Stirling – Brooke S. Passey: The Only Pirate at the Party

My mom could have saved a lot of time and money by just saying no to my request. But because she never told me I wouldn't be able to do it, I did it. That's the best part about being a kid. Nothing seems impossible until someone bigger and older tells you it is.

When it comes to appearances, I believe we can all find things to love about the things we don't like. For instance:

1. I love my full-scale horse teeth because I got them from my dad.
2. I love my hairy arms because brushing them calms me.
3. I love my small boobs because they don't pummel me in the face when I dance.
4. I love my stubby fingernails because they don't get in my way when I play my violin fast.
5. I love that my hair won't grow much past my shoulders becasuse… I just do.
6. I love my four recurring chin whiskers because I have named them „The Whisky Bros,” and they are like a loyal gang of friends.
7. I love my acne-prone skin because it reminds me of my youth.
8. I love my hairy knuckles because they collect pollen and help support the ecosystem.

I love myself.

See, that wasn't so hard. Now, it's your turn.

If you don't have your dream job, keep working at it until you do. When you get there, don't forget it's your dream. Remind yourself what it felt like to wear khakis every day, and everything else will seem great in comparison. And if you're the one wearing the khakis, don't worry, it's not permanent . . . unless you want it to be. In that case, those capris look dang good on you.

… sometimes being different feels a lot like being alone, and being alone is exhausting.

I've never understood this mentality. Simply having the money to buy a new car means I should? I guess I should also buy a pontoon boat, or a camel, or a hot air balloon. Granted, a new set of wheels is much more practical than any of the above, but if it ain't broke, why fix it?

I know there are other violinists out there who can play with clearer tone, vibrato, and intonation than I can. They can play Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Bartók with better technique and accuracy. I applaud their talent. But I too have talents.

Apart from nasty comments on the Internet, I have a lot of wonderful supporters who have said things like:
„Lindsey, your a wonderful human bean!!!!”
To that I say, „No, you are a wonderul human bean.”

Two hundred cracking voices chanted in unison, "Lind-sey! Lind-sey!' Two little syllables never sounded so big.
Gavi cocked his head to listen and then looked back at me with an encouraging smile.
„Who are you?”
Drew looked equally shocked. „I thought you said this was your first ticketed show”, he said.
Their suprise was nothing compared to mine. „It is,” I replied.
