Lily Morton: Vow Maker

Dylan Mitchell wants to get married.

However, after seven years of being engaged, that’s looking slightly doubtful. After going through ten wedding planners, they’re gaining a reputation somewhat akin to Henry the Eighth on the wedding circuit.

Gabe has vetoed symbolic dove releases, forests of flowers, fire-eating performers, and puce as a wedding colour. He’s confounded an army of wedding professionals, and now Dylan, the man who knows and loves him better than anyone, has joined the ranks of the confused. Can anything please his fiancé and get them to the altar?

From bestselling author Lily Morton comes the sequel to Rule Breaker. A romantic comedy novella full of family chaos, meddling friends, sexy bathroom encounters, and love. Always love.

Lily Morton: Vow Maker

“I haven’t the first clue what he likes about me, but I’m not willing to jinx it.”
“Probably best. We all need a bit of mystery in our lives.”

Chapter Three Gabe

“Remember that being right in an argument or a discussion with your loved one isn’t half as important as being together in harmony.”
“I’d like to experience the alien feeling of being right,” I say sourly. “The last time Dylan let me be right, the Spice Girls were in the charts.”

“Come on,” he orders. “Get in here quick before we get caught.”
I give an over-the-top shudder. “I love your bossy ways,” I say breathily.
“I’d believe that more, Dylan, if you were actually capable of obeying a direct order.”

“What are you doing?”
He opens the button of my trousers and lowers my zip. “I’m looking for my marmalade sandwiches.”
“Oh, Paddington, you naughty little bear.”

“And?”
“What?”
“Do you have an actual point?”
“I thought I made it. I’m so sorry you’re struggling to keep up.”
“You’re incredibly sassy.”
“It has been said.”
“I’d lay odds it wasn’t a compliment.”
“And you’d be right.”

Chapter Five Gabe

“You can choose to please all those guests at your wedding, but they won’t be in your bed on a dark night. You can’t snuggle with them. You can’t confide your deepest secrets. They’re just voices saying congratulations and hands throwing confetti. This marriage is you and Dylan. Think of what marriage really means to you and what you want from it for the rest of your life, and if you can fix that in your mind, you won’t go wrong.”

Chapter Five Gabe

We added bi-folding doors in the back of the house to make the most of the sea views, and then sandblasted the beams and laid flagstone floors. Now it’s light and airy with whitewashed walls. Thick rugs and colourful paintings add splashes of colour, and the whole effect is one of luxury and comfort. Our books are still in London, but we’re both avid readers, so more have made their way here, and now there are floor-to-ceiling bookcases dotted everywhere. Music plays all the time because Dylan is genetically incapable of being in a quiet room.
I think rather fancifully that if the house were a recording device, all these walls would play back would be laughter, the groans of lovemaking, and the sweet whispers afterwards. I look around and smile. Home. Such a funny, small word for such a huge thing.

Chapter Six Gabe

Marriage is a ring on your finger and a signature on a piece of paper. It’s the love that gives it life.”

Chapter Seven Dylan

“What are you on about?”
“Zombies eating Henry,” Ivo says.
Dylan blinks. “They’d have to get through that suit first.” We all turn to observe Henry who’s wearing a cream and grey striped suit with brown brogues and a rather funky bow tie. “He looks like he’s going on a day trip with Mary Poppins,” Dylan observes.
“He’d have found dancing with the penguins very traumatic. He gets panicky if we stand near pigeons,” Ivo offers. He gives his husband a wolfish look. “I bet I could eat him through that suit, though.”
