Lily Morton: Confetti Hearts

Joe Bagshaw doesn’t believe in love or marriage anymore, which is rather a hindrance for a wedding planner.

His own marriage was a whirlwind affair that ended before the ink could dry on the wedding certificate. Nevertheless, even with his divorce pending, he’s getting by. Or at least he was until he finds himself snowed in at a remote Scottish hotel with the wedding party from hell, a terrible ABBA tribute band, and his soon-to-be ex-husband.

Lachlan has missed Joe from the second his husband walked away. He wants Joe back and is prepared to do anything to get him. Being snowed in together seems to offer the chance Lachlan needs, but does he have what it takes to get Joe to trust in love and their marriage again?

From bestselling author Lily Morton, comes a romantic comedy about love, matrimony, and the best of second chances.

“Okay, the band is here.”
“DABBA,” I say with a wince.
He laughs. “I believe so. They’re setting up in the reception room. The wedding party will eat, make their speeches, and then Erica and Ryan are doing their first dance.”
“To an ABBA song,” I say gloomily. “Well, it’ll make a nice change from ‘Everything I Do’ by Bryan Adams. At this stage, I think I’ve heard that song more than Kevin Costner.”

I’m much happier on a beach with a cocktail and a good book.

“Ah well, that’s marriage,” Lachlan says suavely. “A constant journey of discovery.”

“Okay, what’s wrong with it?” I say over the sound of her heart-wrenching sobs. I’ve adopted my soothing voice. “Tell me.”
“It’s a s-s-square.”
Why is this a surprise?
“And we don’t want square now?”
“No. I read somewhere that it’s bad luck.”
Bloody Google.

A weight hits the end of the bed, and I smile as my cat Lord Humphrey pads towards me. He miaows and butts my head with his own.
“Hey, baby,” I say, rubbing his ear. “How are you?”
He settles next to me on the bed and observes me with disapproving golden eyes.

The fridge is empty probably because, since our split, I’ve embarked on a largely liquid diet of rum, cocktails, and best of all, rum cocktails.

“Brian has decided we should branch out and play Linkin Park,” Bridget snaps.
“Their music is genius,” Brian says doggedly.
Anna is obviously struggling between rage and wifely duty. Unfortunately, it looks like rage might win at some point soon.
“Oh, really?” Bridget says, folding her arms over her chest. “And what exactly about the song ‘Numb’ screams marital bliss to you, Brian?”

“Oh my god,” she says, clapping her hands. “That’s amazing.”
Her excitement is contagious. She’s wanted a Scottish wedding since she watched Four Weddings and a Funeral. The fact that one of the guests died at that wedding hadn’t dented her enthusiasm in the slightest.
