Shy the Platypus is one of the enduring classics of Australian children's literature. Since the first edition in 1944, it has been republished for succeeding generations of readers and translated into other languages, selling hundreds of thousands of copies. With Shy the Platypus and his other nature stories, Leslie Rees introduced readers to the life histories and fascinating natural environments of Australia's unique wildlife. He became one of our best-loved children's writers.
The daughters of Leslie Rees, Megan Clarke Wintle and Dymphna Rees Peterson, have contributed to the making of this edition of Shy the Platypus. Dymphna has introduced the story with a personal memoir of how her father wrote his children's books, and has included photographs and some of his literary memorabilia.
Now Shy will be introduced to a new generation of Australian children in this richly illustrated edition from the National Library of Australia.
