For nearly two thousand years, there was only one Druid left walking the Earth—Atticus O’Sullivan, the Iron Druid, whose sharp wit and sharp sword kept him alive while pursued by a pantheon of hostile deities. Now he’s got company.

Atticus’s apprentice Granuaile is at last a full Druid herself. What’s more, Atticus has defrosted an archdruid long ago frozen in time, a father figure (of sorts) who now goes by the modern equivalent of his old Irish name: Owen Kennedy.

And Owen has some catching up to do.

Atticus takes pleasure in the role reversal, as the student is now the teacher. Between busting Atticus’s chops and trying to fathom a cell phone, Owen must also learn English. For Atticus, the jury’s still out on whether the wily old coot will be an asset in the epic battle with Norse god Loki—or merely a pain in the arse.

But Atticus isn’t the only one with daddy issues. Granuaile faces a great challenge: to exorcise a sorcerer’s spirit that is… (tovább)

Kevin Hearne: Shattered

[…] Place called Humpy's.
That was enough to draw Oberon's attention. <Humpy's? That sounds like it's hound-friedly! Can we visit?>
The name probably has something to do with salmon, Oberon. Some types of salmon grow humps on their backs right before they spawn.
<Are you really going to crush my beautiful dream with a boring fish fact?>

Owen slid cautiously onto the upholstered chair after watching me do the same, his expression a mask of wonder at the feeling of padding. But horror suffused his face shortly afterward as he remembered what he'd seen on the way in, and he whispered his first words to me in the modern world, hunched low over the table. „They've covered up the earth, Siodhachan!”

<Granuaile sad again?>
She comes to me, ears up, and I fall to my knees and wrap my arms around her neck, bawling.
Yes. I miss my mom.
<But she is in house. Over there.>
I can't talk to her. Can't tell her the truth.
It's like there's a giant river of time and circumstance between us and I can't figure out how to cross it safely. It's too dangerous for both of us.
<Oh! I understand maybe. Time is hard. I think time is most hard thing in the world. Oberon is bad at time too.>
I'm sorry to be such a downer, Orlaith, but I need to cry for a while.
<Okay, Granuaile. I will stay and wait. Sad you have no time with your mother. But you can have all my time.>
