When Marcos moves to town, Milo is forced to acknowledge the feelings he's kept hidden, especially from his religious parents. But as natural disasters begin to befall them the closer they become, Milo and Marcos soon begin to wonder if the universe itself is plotting against them in this young adult debut by playwright and creator of The Two Princes podcast, Kevin Christopher Snipes.

Milo Connolly has managed to survive the first three years of high school without any major disasters, so by his calculations, he’s well past due for some sort of Epic Teenage Catastrophe. Even so, all he wants his senior year is to keep his head down and fly under the radar like the quiet, well-behaved, churchgoing boy that everyone thinks he is.

Everything is going exactly as planned until the dreamy and charismatic Marcos Price saunters back into his life after a three-year absence and turns his world upside-down. Suddenly Milo is forced to confront the long-buried feelings that… (tovább)

Kevin Christopher Snipes: Milo and Marcos at the End of the World

Mivel eléggé gyatrán állok az ide olvasásaimmal, úgy döntöttem, készítek egy olvasós bingót, hátha úgy jobban motivált leszek. Aztán persze azonnal úgy tűnt, már a legelső rubrika is kifog rajtam, de szerencsére belebotlottam a Milo and Marcos at the End of the Worldbe és visszatért a hitem (pun intended).

“It’s just been a long day.”
It actually hasn’t. I mean, it’s not like I’ve been down a coal mine for the last eight hours.

I’ve drawn the first line in the sand between us. A line he now knows he can’t cross. A line that will hopefully grow wider and wider every day until there’s no common ground between us. Until he doesn’t know the person standing on the other side of it. Or until he doesn’t want to know that person.

Factor five: her name goes really well with mine. Milo and Margot. I can already picture it on our wedding invitations. “You and a guest are cordially invited to the wedding of Milo and Marcos.”
Margot! The wedding of Milo and Margot. Oh my god. I need to focus.

I can’t believe only a few hours ago I thought I could be happy with being “just friends.” I am truly and utterly incompetent when it comes to knowing what’s good for me.

"It definitely would’ve cleared up a lot of things, but I was too busy freaking out.”
“About me?”
I shake my head. “About me. And what I was feeling. I didn’t want . . .”
“Want what?”
“I didn’t want to be gay.”
It’s an ugly confession. I hate how it sounds coming out of my mouth, but it’s the truth.
“Is that why you suddenly got interested in Margot Chen?”
“Yeah,” I sigh. “I thought if I had a girlfriend that I could push away these feelings. That I could be normal—”
“You are normal,” Marcos interrupts, his hand once again reaching out for mine. This time I don’t pull back and he doesn’t let go. And I don’t want him to.

Marcos laughs even harder, and I think to myself that if I devote the rest of my life to making him as happy as he is right now, it will be a life well spent.

“You okay?”
I want you to douse me in gasoline and then set me on fire because that would be less excruciating than trying to grapple with a lifetime of self-loathing and internalized homophobia while Lady Gaga blasts in my ear.
“Yeah. I’m fine.”

Szellő_Abigél I>!

I’ve spent my entire life trying to conceal who I am. Now I’m deliberately undoing all my hard work just by stepping into this rainbow-strewn wonderland and consorting with these people.

Szellő_Abigél I>!

They’re actually owning who they are and claiming their place in the world just by being here tonight and demanding to be seen. They’re not apologizing or hiding or letting anyone else define who they are. They’re making their own rules and following their own paths and living their own lives. And more than anything I want to be a part of that.

Of course, that would mean that not only is God surprisingly cool with gay people, He’s also really rooting for Marcos and me. Which isn’t a totally impossible idea. I mean, God could be a big ol’ softie. Why not? It’s better than the alternative.
And when you think about it—I mean really, really think about it—maybe a God who roots for love is the only God worth believing in.
