Odin's Ravens (The Blackwell Pages 2.) 3 csillagozás

Kelley Armstrong – Melissa Marr: Odin's Ravens

Seven kids, Thor's hammer, and a whole lot of Valkyries are the only things standing against the end of the world.

When thirteen-year-old Matt Thorsen, a modern day descendant of the Norse god Thor, was chosen to represent Thor in an epic battle to prevent the apocalypse he thought he knew how things would play out. Gather the descendants standing in for gods like Loki and Odin, defeat a giant serpent, and save the world. No problem, right?

But the descendants' journey grinds to a halt when their friend and descendant Baldwin is poisoned and killed and Matt, Fen, and Laurie must travel to the Underworld in the hopes of saving him. But that's only their first stop on their journey to reunite the challengers, find Thor's hammer, and stop the apocalypse--a journey filled with enough tooth-and-nail battles and larger-than-life monsters to make Matt a legend in his own right.

Authors K.L. Armstrong and M.A. Marr return to Blackwell in the epic sequel to Loki's… (tovább)

Kelley Armstrong – Melissa Marr: Odin's Ravens

Kelley Armstrong – Melissa Marr: Odin's Ravens

Knowing the future had made it really hard to make friends. In the myths, Thor and Loki were friends with Odin, and Owen really hoped that the gods’ representatives would also be his friends. For now, he had only his two ravens: Thought (Huginn) and Memory (Muninn).

“What is that thing?” Fen said. “Thorsen? You’re the monster expert.”
“I know; I know.” Matt racked his brain to think of Norse flying beasts. There weren’t many. “Maybe Hræsvelgr? He’s a giant that sits at the end of the world and can take the form of an eagle.”

“You are Vingthor,” she said after a moment.
“Which means…”
“You are the god born anew. In mortal form.”
“But not reincarnated?”
She seemed to struggle to find the right words. “Gods are more than people. They are ideas. They are whatever their people need them to be. There was Thor. There can be another Thor, with his blood and his powers and everything that he was. That is Vingthor. You are Vingthor.”
“Okay.”

“He wants his present,” Fen said.
“It is there.” Hildar pointed at the goat herd.
“Behind the goats?” Baldwin said.
Hildar turned to Matt. “Son of Thor…?”

Garm huffed. “Helen doesn’t like godlings.”
“I don’t like a lot of them, either,” Fen offered, trying to be friendly. “Ray and Reyna, who didn’t come, are very irritating.”
Garm sort of grinned, his massive dog mouth opening slightly. “You are Father Loki’s kin. Seeking silvered words to convince me to do what you want. He was like that.”

He figured that Garm had a point, or two points, really: this was a place for dead folks, and he’d never heard of any myths where the gods weren’t annoying in their requests. The gods hadn’t exactly requested that their descendants fight Ragnarök. He’d do it, but he wished he could tell off a few dead gods for the mess they’d left for their descendants to sort out.

Owen opened his eyes. For now, he could still do that, but every day, he tried to convince himself to only open the one, to get used to losing his eye. When he was little, he’d worn an eye patch for an entire school year to practice having only one eye.

“If you’re so all-knowing, shouldn’t you have known we would capture you?” the Raider taunted.
“Yes.” Owen smiled at the boy. He’d discovered that his smile frightened them, so he smiled often. “I knew.”

“It’s probably just a ghost,” Matt said. “A wraith or a landvættir. I hear a whispery noise, like a death shroud.”
“Death shroud?” Laurie asked.
“You know, the thing they wrap corpses in. It’s probably just a curious corpse following us.”

“Father Loki would like you, Fenrir.” Helen patted his head, and then turned away.
Laurie shivered at that pronouncement, and Fen shot her a look of agreement. He wasn’t so sure that being liked by Loki was a good thing.
