Katie Ashley: The Pairing

Határozottan állítom, hogy ez a legjobb kötet a szériából. (Bár még nem volt szerencsém Casey rövidke 61 oldalas sztoriját – „The Predicament” címen – elolvasni.)
Mivel magyarul nem jelent meg, ezt már angolul olvastam, így végre betekintést nyerhettem Katie Ashley valódi írói stílusába. Egészen megszerettem, de a káromkodást nem tudtam hová tenni. Nem ítélkezem (magam is mocskos szájú vagyok), de NEKEM valahogy mindig a legrosszabbkor nyögött be egy-egy vulgáris szót. Ez lehet akár kultúrák közötti eltérés is, de én szerintem rosszul kezelném, ha a ”jobbik felem” egy romantikus pillanatban azt rebegné, hogy ”Ki**szottul szeretlek”.
Itt most – kivételesen – nem volt meg az örökös Katie Ashley gondom, hogy a férfiak szövegei nem elég „férfiasak”. Pesh mondatai emellett nekem nagyon jól visszaadták azt az indiai kultúrát, amit a tévéből ismerek és szeretek.
Érdekes egyébként, de így, hogy Aiden és Emma csak minimális mértékben szerepeltek, nekem fogyaszthatóvá váltak, pedig az előző kötetben nagyon meguntam őket. (Főleg azt a huzavonát, amit műveltek, ami kísértetiesen hasonlított nekem a hentai mangák örökös „akarom, akarom, de mégis nemet mondok, aztán mégiscsak hagyom magam” vonására.)
A végéről persze nem maradhatott ki az előző könyvre is jellemző egy nappal, két nappal, egy héttel, két héttel, egy hónappal, fél évvel és egy évvel és ki tudja hány évvel később című fejezetek. (Tudom, ez tipikus példája annak, hogy soha semmi sehogy sem jó senkinek.) Enyhén túlzásba viszi ezt az írónő. Pedig pont mindig én vagyok az, aki még egy kicsit nézné a filmet, még tovább olvasná a könyvet, hogy tudjam, milyen a párok élete a befejezés után, de itt már konkrétan a szememet forgattam, hogy „ugyan mikor lesz már vége?!”
Összességében azonban kellemes olvasmány (ha félreteszem az agyam egy távoli zugába a tényt, hogy nem pártolom az ilyen nagy korkülönbségeket… höhö)

“Mommy!” a small voice cried. Pesh glanced over Megan’s shoulder where a fair-haired toddler came bounding over. He wrapped his arms around Megan’s thigh.
She gave him an apologetic look before bending over. “What’s the matter, sweetie?”
He grinned up at her. “Miss you.”

ˇ"You were there for us when we really needed you. I mean, besides my wedding day, I would’ve missed the most important days of my life—my son’s birth. I can never thank you enough. So when it comes down to it, I don’t think I could ask for a better godfather for my son.”
Aidan’s words touched Pesh. “Thank you. That means a lot. You have my word that I will always do what is right by Noah.”
After giving him a hearty thump on the shoulder, Aidan said, “Come on back with me. I want to introduce you to everyone.”
“Do they…” Pesh wasn’t sure how to ask if Aidan’s family knew the story of how he and Emma truly knew each other.
Aidan chuckled. “Let’s just say that Pop’s the only one who knows the truth. The others just think you met us when Pop had his heart attack.”
Pesh couldn’t help the relieved breath that whooshed out of him. It would have been a nightmare to have most of Aidan’s family hating him for trying to steal Emma away. “I see.”
