Karen Chance: Reap the Wind

You’d think that being Chief Seer for the supernatural world would come with a few perks. But as Cassie Palmer has learned, being Pythia doesn’t mean you don’t have to do things the hard way. That’s why she finds herself on a rescue mission skipping through time—even though she doesn't entirely understand her dimension-bending new power.

Rescuing her friend John Pritkin should have been an in and out kind of deal, but with the near-immortal mage’s soul lost in time, Cassie has to hunt for it through the ages—with Pritkin’s demon dad in tow. He’s the only one who can reverse Pritkin’s curse, but with the guardians of the time-line dead set on stopping anyone from mucking about, Cassie will have to figure out how to get her friend back without ruffling too many feathers—or causing a world-ending paradox or two…

Karen Chance: Reap the Wind

Hmm… most egy kicsit csalódott vagyok.

Ugrok is a folytatásra.

“I don’t try to be a disaster,” I told him, feeling my throat tighten up.
He sighed and took my hand, interlacing his fingers with my own. Since his were the size of sausages, that left mine spread uncomfortably wide, but I decided I could live with it. “You don’t have to try,” he told me. “It’s a gift.”

Mircea Basarab was a lot of things. Handsome—beautiful, really, if you could use that word for a man—in that stunning way that movie stars are and the rest of us aren’t. Only Mircea didn’t need a great wardrobe and the right lighting. Mircea could make women swoon naked and in the dark.
Especially naked and in the dark, come to think of it.

I didn’t want to be Lara Croft, I decided. Lara Croft sucked. I wanted to be home, in a soft bed, with a warm cup of something seriously alcoholic. Like Irish coffee. Yeah. Irish coffee would be really great right now.

“Then what’s in that?”
“Clothes, mainly. Or did you plan to go to court dressed like that?”
I looked down at my shorts and T-shirt, and then what he’d said registered. “We’re going to court?”
“Such as it is.”
“You mean . . . Arthur’s court? We’re going to Camelot?”
Rosier looked like he was about to say something, and then clamped his lips shut. “Yes. We’re going to Camelot. Happy?”

For a second, I just stood there, taking in the sight of three too-lithe bodies coming down the bank. They had weird black armor, long silver hair, and a fluid, alien way of moving that was less Lord of the Rings sexy than intensely creepy.
Fey, I thought blankly.

He picked up a bowl of little smoked fish and offered it to me, but I shook my head. I have a problem eating anything that is able to watch me do it.

Because I didn’t have to do this. I could shift back in time a day and warn everyone. I could tell Marlowe to move his damned potion. Could tell the Senate to up their security. Could—
Be ignored, disbelieved, and not taken seriously, just like I had been my whole life.
My name wasn’t Cassandra for nothing.

Don’t you know how the fey were made?”
I shook my head.
“They’re all the same, really. Even the lordly Svarestri, although they’d likely string up anyone who said so. But it’s true.”
“What’s true?” I asked, watching fire-me now scream my way down a raging river. At least they were consistent.
“That they were all born of the gods.”

“There was a war.” I didn’t even have to guess.
Pritkin nodded. “One so terrible, they don’t even sing about it. Some things, no one wants to remember.”
“And the dark fey were part of it?”
“Everyone was. But the main combatants were the two leading light fey families, the ones favored by the different groups of gods.”
“Different groups?”
“The Æsir, gods of battle, and the Vanir, gods of nature, who were at each other’s throats more often than not. The Æsir were worshipped by the Svarestri, who remain as martial as their forebears. The Vanir were worshipped by the Blarestri, which is why the Sky Lords’ lands are said to bloom like a garden, despite being high in the mountain fastnesses.”

According to her, the whole world was a danger, especially to a child. Venture too far into the marshes, and the will-o’-the-wisp would lead you to your doom. Wander into the forest, and the monster Afang would drag you back to his cave, littered with the bones of disobedient little boys and girls. Go swimming, and the mermaids would lure you into dark water until you drowned. And then there was always the bwgan, who would get you for almost anything else!”
