Jojo Moyes: The One Plus One

Életem első könyve az írónőtől. De nem az utolsó.
Én szinte faltam az oldalakat. Tetszett az egész történet, hogy „életszagú” volt. Néha kicsit meg tudtam volna rázni Jess-t, annyira tudott időnként irritálni a szendvicseivel!
Egészében egy nagyon jó regény!
Azon gondokozom, melyik könyvét olvassam most? :)

Jojo Moyes: The One Plus One

Could have been good.
Except it didn't live up to its promise. Such different persons locked together in a car – was a very promising plot, with lots of possibilities. It could have been high literature… and it ended up chick lit, with a promise of a meaning, a lesson learnt, but after all just some hours of entertainment.
It would have been more intriguing if only told from the viewpoint of Jess. (Ed's viewpoint could have made an other book, if the initial book is successful enough.) And it should have gone deeper. JM had a good initial idea but I felt she didn't dare explore it.
The kids were more real than the all-good, naive Jess. She was too much for me sometimes. Also, Tanzie's turning away from Maths was lame, not so well based as Nicky's change.
And I couldn't understand how Jess couldn't save up Ł500 initially for Tanzie's school but later coughed up Ł1000 to pay back the donation, while also paying installments to Ed, not to mention take the Rolls out from the ward (cca Ł2000 with the fine).

Jojo Moyes: The One Plus One

Tud egyáltalán Jojo Moyes (ejtse a nevét bárhogyan is) olyan karaktert írni akit én ne kedvelnék meg?

Jojo Moyes: The One Plus One

Ez a történet most nem tudott magával ragadni. A szereplők közül egyikkel sem tudtam azonosulni. Klasszikus chick-lit kategóriájú mű, nyári strandolvasmány

Maria Costanza was just one of life's lemon-suckers. Jess wasn't sure she had ever seen a smile break spontaneously over her face, unless it was to report some piece of news about one of her friends or neighbours: a slashed tyre or a terminal illness, maybe.
