In Sight a woman recounts her progress to motherhood, while remembering the death of her own mother, and the childhood summers, she spent with her psychoanalyst grandmother. Woven among these personal recollections are significant events in medical history: Wilhelm Röntgen's discovery of the X-ray and his production of an image of his wife's hand; Sigmund Freud's development of psychoanalysis and the work that he did with his daughter, Anna; John Hunter's attempts to set surgery on a scientific footing and his work, as a collaborator with his brother William and the artist Jan van Rymsdyk, on the anatomy of pregnant bodies.

Rövid időn, alig egy hónapon belül, ez volt a második olvasmányom, ami az anyává válással, a szülői szereppel foglalkozott. Az első Sarah Fisher Anyapara című kötete volt. Ez esetben sem tudtam eldönteni, hogy mit szeretett volna írni a szerző. Nem regény, nem memoár és nem napló. Egyfajta tudatfolyam, amiben a narrátor próbálja megismerni és megérteni magát, hogy felelős döntést hozhasson a gyermekvállalásról. Közben sorra elmélkedik az anyjáról, a nagyanyjával való kapcsolatáról, az elmúlásról, a felelősségről, az időben változó szerepekről, amit a családjában betölt. Nem a családtámogatási rendszerről, a részmunkaidőről, a háztartási munka megosztásáról gondolkozik, hanem saját magáról és arról, hogy akar-e és tud-e anyává válni, felelősséget vállalni és gondoskodni, akkor is, ha éppen kényelmetlen. Komoly és megható könyv, amit áthat a narrátorhoz közel álló kevesek iránt érzett szeretet. Az egyik leglíraibb nem-regény, amit valaha olvastam.
