Jennifer Crusie: Fast Women

Nell Dysart is living a too small life in a too small apartment with no visible evidence of a reason to get up in the morning. Weighed down by an inexplicable divorce and a loss of appetite for everything, Nell is frozen in place, and she's not alone: Her two closest friends and sisters-in-law are as stuck as she is. Suze is married to a controlling lawyer who keeps her housebound while she perfects an almost zen-like denial, and Margie has been stuck in foggy limbo since her husband disappeared seven years before with a lot of money that didn't belong to him. Good thing Nell's new job is with a down-and-out detective agency that has huge potential and a boss who looks easy to manage.

Gabe McKenna isn't doing too well, either. His detective agency is wasting time on a blackmail case, his partner Riley has decided he hates watching cheating spouses for money, and his ex-wife has just dumped him . . . again. Good thing his new secretary looks efficient, boring, and… (tovább)

„Some woman just picked up Riley,” Suze said.
„It happens,” Gabe said. „He sits there and they throw themselves at him.”

Chapter 12

Quiconque>!

She was setting out china cups in their saucers, her long pale hands almost the same color as the cream china. „How do you take yours?”
„Four creams, two sugars,” Riley said, still mesmerized by her.
She stopped with a small waxed carton in her hand. „Really?”
„He's very young,” Gabe said. „I take mine black.”
„He's very boring,” Riley said. „Is that real cream?”

Chapter 2

Quiconque>!

„Does it ever occur to you not to sleep with women?”
„No,” Riley said.

Chapter 2

Quiconque>!

She looked down at herself, wrapped in Suze's blue Lycra, and realized she'd become
disconnected from her body. No hunger, no lust, she wasn't even sure she could feel pain. The cut on her cheek hadn't hurt at all, now that she thought about it. Maybe she was dead and she was just too damn dumb to lie down.

Chapter 4

Quiconque>!

„Do not do anything depraved.”
„It's lunch,” Jase said. „I don't do depraved until after dark.”

Chapter 6

Quiconque>!

SugarPie looked up at all of them, dropped her head between her shoulders, and moaned.
„Now what?” Gabe said, and she fluttered her eyelashes at him, quivering at his feet.
„Marlene Dietrich used to do that eyelash thing in the movies, right before she took a guy for everything he had,” Riley said. „All this dog needs is a garter belt and a top hat.”

Chapter 8

Quiconque>!

He picked up the biscuit box and said, „Come on, Marlene. Back into hiding in case somebody comes looking for you, although only God knows why anybody would.”
„Marlene?” Nell said.
„I'm not calling anything SugarPie,” Riley said. „That's obscene.”

Chapter 8

Quiconque>!

„Gina thinks Harold is cheating?” Nell said.
„I think he owes her a couple,” Riley said. „But I don't think she feels that way.”
„Yeah,” Nell said. „People get so sensitive about adultery.”

Chapter 14

Connie>!

She wasn't impressed with Riley's intellect or energy so far, but he was big, blond, and blue-eyed, so at least he was fun to look at.

Connie>!

„Gabe and Nell are both kissers,” Suze said. „Nell ran Tim, and Gabe ran Chloe and the office and you.”
„Not me,” Riley said.
