„If they ever find you … run”
Élveztem Gessinger debütáló novelláját. Na, nem mintha annyira egyedi lett volna a történet, de időnként szinte lírai minőségű volt az írás, amit magával ragadónak találtam. És az is külön tetszett, hogy Jenna, aki úgy döntött, hogy Leander-rel tart, még akkor is ha ő az ellenség, nem teszi lehetővé mindjárt az első alkalommal, hogy a hormonjai felülbírálják a bizalmatlanságát vele szemben – ami növeli a szexuális vonzalmat közöttük – és az is tetszett, hogy az ő döntése volt, hogy visszatartsa magát és az érzelmeit csenddel és határozottsággal, ami felhívta az olvasó figyelmét a köztük lévő feszültségre, a sokkal gyakoribb eszközök helyett, amit sok író használ, hogy külső megszakításokkal érje el ugyanezt az eredményt – az ilyen típusú mód, amely átalakítja a döntést „sorsra” a „választás” helyett, gyakran elveszti a hős a tiszteletemet emiatt. Alakváltó fan vagyok, így még egy dolog, ami nagyon tetszett a történetben, az a mód, ahogy Gessinger bemutatta, hogy mennyire is különbözőek az Ikati-k érzékei a mi normál halandó érzékeinkhez képest; a borkóstolós jelenet hatékony demonstrálása volt ennek a különbségnek.
