A kötet végén megtudjuk, a szerkesztő miként állította össze a válogatást. Itt tetszett, hogy minden forrásához személyes kommentárt fűz. A kötetet bibliográfiai jegyzék zárja.

Igényes, jól válogatott összeállítás, nem az unalomig ismert Ezeregyéjszaka-mesékből dzemezget, sokkal inkább a török/oszét mesék hangulatát idéző népmesékkel találkozhat az olvasó. Szerettem a kötetet. A fél csillag levonás azért jár, mert a mesékről keveset tudunk meg, a gyűjtési országon kívül konkrétan semmi mást (pl. ki mesélte, mikor gyűjtötték).

In the place where he dismounted lay a carpet, and beside it were two men wrestling so fiercely with each other that the dust rose into the air about them. But on seeing Hatim they desisted and cried, „Here comes a Moslem; let him judge between us!” And they explained to Hatim that they were brothers and their father, one of the Djinn, had given them the flying carpet now spread on the ground. A man had but to step on it and say, „Fly, O carpet, in the name of Suleyman the prophet,” and it would carry him even to the farthest ends of the earth. „But tell us how can we divide it between us,” said the sons of the Djinn. Hatim said, „I shall throw a stone as far as I can reach, and whichever of you picks it up first shall be the owner of the carpet.” He threw the stone and the young Djinns raced after it. As soon as their back were turned, Hatim stepped onto the magic carpet, and said, „Carry me, O carpet, in the name of Suleyman the prophet, to the place where I may discover how the winds are made to rise and the rains to fall.”
In the glancing of an eye, the carpet rose off the ground and carried Hatim through the air till the earth beneath him sank and seemed no larger than a copper coffee tray.
