Mysterious Journey to the North Sea – Part Two
Hideyuki Kikuchi: Vampire Hunter D 8.

The picturesque coastal town of Florence was known for millennia as a pleasure resort for the Nobility. As retribution for their decadence, the cruel and beautiful vampire inhabitants were „punished,” driven out more than a thousand years ago by a solitary traveler in black. Only one-Baron Meinster-refused to leave, only to be thrown to the waves by the mysterious assassin.

Summoned to contemporary Florence by Su-in, sister of a murdered village girl, the enigmatic Vampire Hunter D discovers a vampire curse ravaging the town's human inhabitants. The plague apparently originating, impossibly, from the unforgiving sea-could it be Meinster's Revenge?

”The same is probably true of the Nobility."

”[…] one look at D's abdomen left him pale, and he said, „Hey-you need a doctor!”
”It's not as bad as all that."
Grabbing the spear tip where it protruded from him, D pulled it forward. There was the sound of flesh tearing. Dwight alone grimaced, while the Hunter only crinkled his brow ever so slightly.
”I'll be damned if everyone around me's not some sort of freak".

The expression he aimed down at Su-In instantly became that of a cruel and arrogant fiend.
”I have returned!" he declared. ”But why do I stand before a miserable creature like yourself?"
”Sorry to be such a disappointment," Su-In said sarcastically.

”Who are you?" the Hunter asked again.
”I don't know."
”Where did you come from?"
”The sea," the man replied. „Someplace deep and cold.”
”That's a fitting home for you. Go back."

”[…]So, how about it? Why dont you settle down here and become the head fisherman or something? I'm sure you could get some animal protein out of the huge whale," the voice chortled. After a short pause, he added, ”Hey, aren't you gonna tell me to shut up?"
D looked down at his left hand. The oddest expression lingered around his lips.
”Head fisherman, eh? That might not be too bad," said the Hunter.
