Daughter of the Sun (Tales of Inthya 2.) 3 csillagozás

Effie Calvin: Daughter of the Sun

Orsina of Melidrie is a paladin of the Order of the Sun, sworn to drive out corruption and chaos wherever she finds it. She has been ordered to leave her home and travel around Vesolda in search of a great evil she is supposedly destined to destroy. But after two years of fighting monsters and demons and evil gods, she does not seem to be any closer to her goal – or ever returning home.

Aelia is the Goddess of Caprice, the personification of poor decision-making. The Order of the Sun has classified her as a chaos goddess, meaning that her worship has been outlawed. During a run-in with Orsina, she is trapped in a mortal body, rendering her unable to leave Inthya.

Aelia is found by Orsina again, but this time Orsina does not recognize her in her new body. So Aelia pretends to be a mortal woman who is fleeing an abusive family. Aelia plans to use Orsina as protection as she hunts down the magical relic that will free her from her mortal body.

Effie Calvin: Daughter of the Sun

Az egyik legjobban megírt fantasy, amit ebben a kategóriában olvastam!
Itt már a nevek sem voltak annyira zavaróak, mint az első kötetben.

Alig várom a következő részt.

Gods were generally only as powerful as their worshippers, and Aelia had no worshippers at all.

“I have heard tales,” said Lesego. “They say that if you sail too far past Thiyra, the Mer will warn you to turn around or offer to guide you back. But I cannot tell you if those stories are true. I, myself, have never met a Mer who was interested in anything but music or food or gold.”
“Not so different than Men, then?” Aelia teased.

“It’s probably too late for me. I’m too old and set in my ways to start anew.”
“Too old?” repeated Orsina. “What madness! How old are you? Twenty-five?”
    “Fourteen billion,” said Elyne.
Orsina could not help but laugh at the absurdity of the number. “Fourteen billion years, and you have not found the time to learn the harp?” she teased.
“That’s not fair. The harp was only invented a few thousand years ago.”

Why were mortals so disgusting? Adranus had to give official mandates just to get them to wash their hands!

Aelia picked up Ioanna and then immediately regretted it. Little girls, apparently, were heavier than they looked.

There was still so much more they had to do on Inthya. They had to bring the Unbinding Stone to Bergavenna and deliver Knight-Commander Livius’ letter to Birsgen. They had to help Ioanna take the throne. They had to knock Perlita down a well.

“Do not think less of yourself or your neighbors for it. If it had not been you, it would have been another village. It is in our nature to fail. Forgiveness would not be nearly so precious if we never required it.”

She ate everything on the plate, except for the meat. Consuming plant matter was one thing. Animal matter was quite another. Her own mortal body was made of meat, was it not? Meat consuming meat. It unsettled her.

“I thought paladins were not allowed to drink,” Aelia said. […]
“There is a difference between drinking and drunkenness,” explained Orsina. […]
“What else is forbidden by the Order of the Sun?” Aelia asked, genuinely interested in what sort of absurd restrictions Iolar was forcing upon his children.
“Lying,” said Orsina. “But you probably already knew that one, it’s quite famous. We’re discouraged from owning land or property, or accumulating too much money, though it isn’t outright forbidden. Whenever I find myself with too much coin, I give it to the temple, or send it home to my parents.”
[…]
“And romance?” asked Aelia. “Is that forbidden as well?”
