Szuper kis novella volt, ami időben a 7. és 8. kötet között helyezkedik el, de alapvetően bármikor olvasható. A történet maga Párizsba játszódik, és 2 szálon fut, melyek egy ponton összeérnek. Az egyik szál a frissen megözvegyül Michael Murray és a zárdába készülő Joan MacKimmie utazása és ismeretsége, a másik szál az időutazással, St.Germain gróffal és Raymond mesterrel foglalkozik.
A novella nem csak az időutazás boncolgatása miatt lett meglehetősen misztikus: Joan-nak van egy különleges képessége, melynek inkább csak a megnyilvánulásait ismerhetjük meg, az eredetét nem. Mivel ott a romantikus cimke az adatlapon, talán nem árulok el túl nagy meglepetést, miszerint Gabaldon ebbe a rövidke novellába is belecsempészett némi szerelmi szálat, még ha egyelőre beteljesületlen is, és nagyon remélem, hogy ha letelik az elmélkedésre és gyászra szánt idő, főhőseink képesek lesznek a boldogságot választani.
A 8 nagy regényt kiegészítő kisebb novellák egyike ez. A 8 fő regényt érdemes sorrendben olvasni, de a kisebb kiegészítő novelláknál ennek nincs akkora jelentősége, bármilyen sorrendben olvashatóak. She crossed herself and averted her gaze from the table with the nastiest-looking feet; maybe he’d charmed the furniture, and it came to life and walked round after dark. The thought made her move hastily off to the farther end of the room, rosary clutched tight in one hand.
