Igen tudom, hogy messze se tökéletes.
De, ha van írónő, aki gazdag fantáziával rendelkezik, akkor Colleen Houck az egyike azon alkotóknak, akiktől imádok olvasni.
Az eredeti kötet szerencsére nem sokban tér el a magyar megjelenéstől, e tekintetben nagyon is elégedett vagyok a hazai kiadással is.
Kelsey számomra megtestesíti mindazt az agyhalott karaktert, akitől hidegrázásom van, és ha tehetném messze elkerülném, hogy még véletlenül se mérgezze a lelkemet.
Viszont, ha ezt a karaktert úgymond „kidobom a kukába”, az összes többi szereplő már nagyon is érdekes.
Szépen kidolgozottak, formáltak, árnyaltak.
Senki sem szent, mindenkinek megvan a maga hibája, de nincs túl tolva, inkább az olvasó elfogadja esendőségüket.
A világkép egyedi, igényesen van tálalva, aprólékosan átgondolva minden részletében.
A cselekmény pedig fordulatos.
Összességében még mindig azt írhatom, hogy nekem íródott a könyv és a buta liba nélkül is fantasztikus olvasmányban lett volna részem.

Az írónő stílusa sajnos egyáltalán nem fejlődött a sorozat sikere ellenére. Talán azt gondolta, már nincs hová fejlődnie, hiszen zabáljuk a törénetet. És részben igaza van, mert a történet nagyon fantáziadús, izgalmas és fordulatos is. De azért nem ártana megtanulni a választékos kifejezés-használatot sem. Főleg ha valaki sikerírónak készül. Legalább a minimum elkelne, mondjuk a szleng alkalmazása Shangri-lában elhagyható volna. Egyébként is nagyon idegesítő, főleg a Supermanre és a Star-Trekre és társaikra történő folyamatos utalgatás visszás nekem.
A mitológiai részek nagyon jók, egyre jobbak. Shangri-lát már ismerem, én is olvastam valaha a Kék Hold Völgyét, és készülök is megint elolvasni, így felnőtt, és már vénülő fejjel. Kamaszként nagy élmény volt, és most, hogy élvezhettem, másra milyen hatást gyakorolt, csak ismét megpróbálom. Mondjuk én soha nem gondoltam, hogy görög driádok, kelta tündérek és bibliai Édenkert, valamint Odin hollói népesítik be, de a világfa összes változata itt egybefoglalva és összehozva elég meggyőző érv.
Nagyon tetszett a tibeti utazás leírása, mindig megtudok valami többet a keleti mítoszokról is.
Olyan érzésem van, mintha ezt a könyvet, – és a sorozat többi könyvét is, – több ember írná. Aki a mítoszos részt kiötli és megírja, nem ugyanaz, mint aki a világi történésekért felelős. Az utóbbi unalmas, klisés és igazi amerikai giccs-parádé, aki pedig a mítoszi kalandokat szövi, eredeti és képzeletgazdag, nagy tárgyi tudással. Ki érti ezt?
A könyv eleje kb. 200 oldalig borzasztó, nyűglődés és szenvedés, igazi amcsi YA. Utána visszatérünk Indiába, és mindjárt megelevenedik a történet. Na jó, nyüglődés folytatódik, de legalább felvillan a célja.
A hősnő még mindig úgy viselkedik, mint egy 12 éves csitri, pedig 18-at tölti be éppen. A két fiatalember pedig 20 éves is elmúlt, tigrisként pedig 350, mégis teljesen kamaszosan abnormálisak.
Amiért érdemes folytatni, az a távolkeleti utazás, és a mítoszok, de azért nagyon.
Oké, ez a sorozat olyan szinten formálódott, ami közvetlen kapcsolatban áll az én érdeklődési körömmel. Minden érdekel belőle, a karaterek annyira élők és erősek, a történet pedig érdekfeszítő, izgalmas. A lényeg, hogy csak szuperlativuszokban tudok róla beszélni. Olvasás közben szinte folyataosan kapcsolatban vagyok az indiai barátommal, aki fáradhatatlanul válaszolja meg a kérdéseimet a mitológiai alakokról, legendákról, mondákról. Egyetlen banális hibát találtam a történetben; Chloris (Flora) és Zephyrus története nem igazán úgy történt, ahogy azt Kelsey elmesélte Kishannak. (Mert ugye nem csak indiai mítoszok szövik át a könyvet, de görög, japán, finn és egyéb legendákat is kapunk. Kár, hogy ezekbe nem feketett annyi energiát az írónő.)

The fairies looked like large butterflies, but their glow didn't come from their bodies. The soft light emanated from their colorful wings, which opened and closed lazily as the creatures sat perched on a wooden mount. I pointed at one. „Are those – ?”
„Fairy light? Yes. They have two-hour shifts on lantern duty in the evenings. They like to read on duty. Keeps 'em awake. If the fall asleep, their lights go out.”
I mumbled, „Right. Of course.”
