Prince Liam. Prince Frederic. Prince Duncan. Prince Gustav. You've never heard of them, have you? These are the princes who saved Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, respectively, and yet, thanks to those lousy bards who wrote the tales, you likely know them only as Prince Charming. But all of this is about to change. Rejected by their princesses and cast out of their castles, Liam, Frederic, Duncan, and Gustav stumble upon an evil plot that could endanger each of their kingdoms. Now it's up to them to triumph over their various shortcomings, take on trolls, bandits, dragons, witches, and other assorted terrors, and become the heroes no one ever thought they could be.

Debut author Christopher Healy takes us on a journey with four imperfect princes and their four improbable princesses, all of whom are trying to become perfect heroes--a fast-paced, funny, and fresh introduction to a world where everything, even our classic fairy tales, is not at all what it seems.

Christopher Healy: The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom

Christopher Healy: The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom

Are you any good with a blade?”

“Ha!” laughed Duncan.

Liam furrowed his brow. “Is that ‘Ha,’ as in, ‘How silly of you to ask; everyone knows I’m the best swordsman in the land’?” he asked hopefully.

“No, that was ‘Ha,’ as in, ‘I’ve never even held a sword,’”

“The Idiot Prince didn’t want to come back with us,” Frank replied gruffly.

“Hey,” Snow said. “You know I don’t like it when you call him the Idiot Prince.”

“Sorry,” said Frank. “The Idiot didn’t want to come back with us.”

“Oh, my goodness,” Ella said. “What are you?”

“What are we?” one of the goblins gurgled. “Do you know how insulting that is?”

“Of course I know what you are, ” Ella lied, realizing she’d offended a group of creatures with very sharp sticks. “You didn’t let me finish. I was going to ask, ‘What are you … doing here?’ I think you were rude for interrupting me.”

“She is Ruffian the Blue,” Lila said as she ran up next to Ella. “The infamous bounty hunter. See her blue dress.”

“Ruffian the Blue?” the head goblin questioned. “I figured he was a man.”

“Why?” Ella said, narrowing her eyes. “You think a woman can’t be the world’s best bounty hunter?”

“Where do I put the sword when I’m not using it?” Duncan asked.

“In your belt,” Liam said.

“But what if I stab myself in the leg?”

“So where you two come from, the song about me is pretty popular?”

“About you?” Gustav smirked. “It’s all about the girl.”

“True,” Liam admitted. “How does that manage to happen anyway? I vanquish the villain, I save everybody, and somehow it becomes her story.”

“We all got the same treatment,” Frederic said. “What can I say, the people love princesses. Something about the fancy dresses, I think.”

Frederic had imagined this moment – him running to Ella with open arms, calling her name – but being as winded as he was, doubled over with his hands on his knees, all he could do was nod in her general direction.

Here we are, the four Princes Charming. All together in one place.”

“Prince Charmings,” said Gustav.

“No, Princes Charming,” Duncan cheerfully corrected. “‘Prince’ is the noun; that’s what gets pluralized. ‘Charming’ is an adjective; you can’t add an S to it like that.”

“It sounds stupid,” Gustav said.
