Most is bizseregnek az ujjaim. (Persze lehet, hogy csak a cukorsokk. :D)

Chances are, you are not the mainstream ideal of beauty and if you are anything like me, you would love to read about a character just like you.

The point is to get your character in trouble. Stories are driven by things going wrong, not by everything going smoothly.

One of the reasons I love writing is that it lets you live out your dreams on the page.

What are the ongoing problems you face in your life? Do you wish you could stop fighting with your sister? That your bank account was bigger? That you had a house in the countryside or an apartment in the city? Do you wish the pace of your life were slower or faster? Do you wish you could travel or try something new – dancing, singing opera, hiking? Incorporate that unfulfilled desire into your novel and let your character pursue its fulfillment.

Before we get into how to construct this man, a quick note about hetero-normativity: This chapter is full of it.

The best way to familiarize yourself with the wide variety of possible plotlines is to read. Read widely and note how the trajectory of one novel differs from another. As you read, try to predict what will happen next.

The plot of a chick lit novel is second only to the main character. A good plot without a funny, interesting protagonist is dull, and a leading lady without an exciting, life-changing adventure in front of her is like an unbaked cupcake – pretty much just a bowl of gooey batter.

The plot acts as the oven for your novel, making things just as hot and uncomfortable for your character as it is for a tray of cupcakes cooking at 375°F.
