The scratching of Seth’s chair across the marble tile sounded harsh. “Alex, it’s time for practice.”
Aiden glanced over his shoulder at Seth. “She hasn’t eaten anything.”
“Then at least she’ll eat her lunch,” Seth replied.
Hardness crept across Aiden’s face. “Or you could give her a few minutes to eat her breakfast before she starts practice.”
“Hmm… I’m having this strange sense of déjà vu, except you were telling me to stay out of your training business, and I told you how weird—”
“That’s funny.” Aiden’s full lips twisted into a smirk. “I’m having the same feeling, except I said you should—”
“Oh, for the love of baby daimons everywhere, I’m ready to start practice.” I pushed up from the chair.
Aiden twisted around, his eyes narrowing into thin slits. I grabbed my glass of juice and took a healthy swallow while Laadan watched on with amused interest. “Happy?”
“Do they do this often?” she asked, taking a sip from her crystal flute.
Marcus cleared his throat. “Do you even have to ask?”
“I yelled at Aiden in training.”
Seth nudged my arm with his shoulder. “I’m afraid to ask.”
“He agrees with the new rules.” I yawned. “So I yelled at him.”
“And he said you were being irrational, huh?”
“Yeah, so I yelled at him some more. I told him he was just like all the other pures.”
“Well, he is like other pures.”
I shifted down, trying to ease the ache in my side. “Not really.”
Seth frowned down at me. “Alex, he’s a pure-blood. Just because he chose to become a Sentinel doesn’t make him any different. Ultimately, Aiden will always side with the gods. Not us.”
“You mean the pures, not the gods.”
According to me, Seth was a pain in my—
Seth inclined his head in my direction and winked. I leaned back and focused on the Guards below. Seth and I weren’t getting along at the moment. In our last training session, he’d “accidentally” hit me with a blast of pure energy and I’d “accidentally” thrown a rock at his head.
Perhaps I did have a problem with throwing things.

A couple of moments passed in silence. It sounded like Seth was walking somewhere fast. “I’d like to be in your head for just one hour,” he laughed. “No. Forget that. I don’t. You’d kill my self-confidence.”
Lucian waved his hand again. “Let them go.”
Aiden’s hard stare bounced between us. “I don’t think that’s a good idea at the moment. One of them may seriously injure the other.”
I wondered if he really thought that or if the idea of us “handling” our “lovers’ quarrel” in private bothered him.
Marcus sighed. “I think it is an excellent idea, as we aren’t getting anywhere with both of them in the roo—”
“I thought Lucian needed Seth here,” Aiden interrupted, eyes like chips of ice.
Something ridiculously stupid sprung alive in my chest. Aiden was jealous? “You know what?” I shot Aiden a defiant look. “Let’s go. Come on, Seth. Let’s go continue our lovers’ quarrel.”
Pushing off the wall, Seth arched a brow. “Yes, my love, that sounds absolutely fantastic. Don’t forget to grab a dagger so you can poke my eyeball out. Oh, that’s right.” He fixed a sympathetic look on his face. “Only a trained Sentinel can carry a dagger.”
