– És? Akkor is szerethetek valamit, ha még csak képen láttam. Mr. Baker szereti az óceánt, pedig ma látta először életében!
– Ha annyira szereti, miért nem veszi feleségül? – vetette fel Phee.
Theodore egy húsdarabot rágcsálva csipogott, mire a gyerekek felnevettek, de még Sal is elmosolyodott.
Mielőtt Linus kérdezhetett volna, Ms. Chapelwhite odaszólt neki:
– Theodore reméli, hogy ön és az óceán boldogok lesznek együtt.
– Nem fogom feleségül venni az óceánt!
– Ó… mert már nős, ugye? – kérdezte Talia a szemét tágra nyitva, míg a bajusza meg-megrándult.
– Maga nős? – csattant fel Phee. – És ki a felesége? Ő még a bőröndjében van? Miért rakta bele? A felesége gumiember?
– A macskája a felesége? – zendített rá még Lucy is. – Szeretem a macskákat, de azok nem szeretnek engem. – Szeme kezdett vörösbe borulni. – Félnek, hogy megeszem őket. Őszintén szólva, még sosem ettem macskát, úgyhogy nem tudom, hogy finomak-e vagy sem. A maga felesége finom, Mr. Baker?

“Oh my, no,” Arthur said, fighting a smile. “No, it wasn’t that.”
Linus’s eyes bulged. “Oh dear. That’s not—I didn’t mean—good heavens, what on earth is wrong with me?”
Arthur covered an obvious laugh with a cough. “I’m pleased to hear you’re so open-minded.”
Linus was sure he was terribly red. “I can’t believe I just said that.”
“I can’t either, to be honest. Who knew Linus Baker could be so … you.”
