Magnus Bane személy
– Isten hozta önöket a megfáradt árnyvadászok számára létesített Szent Magnus szeretetotthonban! – mondta mély hangon, és szélesre tárta a karját. – A vendégszobák arra vannak. Ne feledkezzenek meg a lábtörlő használatáról!

– Igen. A barátunk.
– Tudtam, hogy ismered, de nem gondoltam volna, hogy ilyen beugrom hozzád a Solomanciába jellegű a kapcsolatotok!

„What – what are you?” said Magnus.
„I am Ragnor Fell. What are you?”
Magnus could barely find his voice. „He said – she called me – they said I was cursed.”
Ragnor came closer. „And do you always let other people tell you what you are?”
Magnus was silent.
„Because they will always try,” said Ragnor. „You have magic, just like I do.”
Magnus nodded.
„Well, then,” said Ragnor, „here are the most important things I can tell you. People will want to control you because of your power. They will try to convince you they are doing it for your own good. You must be very careful of them.”

Magnus clapped his hands. “Everyone! Gather around. It’s time for a meeting. I’m going to teach you how to summon a demon.”
“Why is there a fully stocked bar next to the sacrificial altar?”
Magnus gave up. “This is definitely my cult, isn’t it?” He paused. “I hope the altar was a later addition.”
“Maybe not,” said Alec. “There might be another warlock who would have wanted a wet bar next to their blood altar.”
“Well, if there is, he should introduce himself,” said Magnus. “I think we would get along.”
“He’s very devoted,” Shinyun continued, gazing at Alec. His eyes were closed, but his arm was curved protectively around Magnus, even in sleep. “Doesn’t he ever quit?”
She reached out a hand to touch Magnus’s, but Magnus felt the muscles in Alec’s body go tense the moment before the Shadowhunter’s hand shot out to grab her wrist.
“I don’t,” said Alec.
Shinyun went still, then withdrew her hand. Alec’s head sagged instantly back against Magnus’s chest and he slipped into whatever twilight state between conscious and unconscious he currently occupied.
“Ever driven stick before?”
Alec hesitated. “Can’t be harder than shooting a bow and arrow while riding a horse at a full gallop.”
“It’s definitely not,” said Magnus. “Besides, you have superhuman reflexes. What’s the worst that could happen?”
He threw Alec the keys and slid into the passenger’s seat with a smile. Alec grinned and jogged over to the driver’s seat.
Magnus suggested some practice loops in the parking lot.
“You have to lift your left foot as you’re applying gas with the right foot,” he said. Alec looked at him.
“Oh no,” he said dryly. “I have to move both feet at the same time. How can I possibly handle such demands of my agility.” He turned back, applied the gas, and was rewarded with a high-pitched screech, like a banshee in a trap. Magnus smiled but did not say anything.
Soon enough, of course, Alec was maneuvering competently around the lot.
