’[…] No one respects you, Jo, because you don’t ask for that respect.[…]’
[…] I wasn’t the best at expressing my emotions. I’d spent so long guarding them so I wouldn’t be vulnerable to heartbreak that even now I wasn’t the gushy, emotional type of girl who could tell her boyfriend every single day that she loved him.
But Braden knew I loved him.
“Children,” Mum called over to us, tsking. “Don’t make me remind you that one of you is an eighteen-year-old and the other is a twenty-two-year-old high school English teacher.”
“Elodie, don’t spoil the fun,” Cam complained. “These two are my weekend entertainment.”
“I’m thinking about filming them and creating a weekly blog,” Joss agreed.
Joss walked away, her long ponytail swaying across her back. Looking back at Braden I watched him watch her in a way that unnerved me. It wasn’t just the fact that he had that determined, focused expression he got on his face when he was going after something—usually a development and never a woman—it was the glimmer of excitement in his eyes.
I’d never seen him look at anybody that way. The romantic side of me sighed happily. The practical side of me (and believe it or not I had one) worried her lip between her teeth, thinking Joss and Braden were either the perfect match or a freaking disaster waiting to happen.
Chapter 6
Years ago I’d lost everything that meant anything to me.
Losing that left me lost.
Until Braden.
