These were the sixth-grade elite, after all—or, as Aria called them, the Typical Rosewoods. Every single one of the Typical Rosewoods lived in gated mansions, multi-acre-spanning compounds, or luxurious converted barns with horse stables and ten-car garages. They were such cookie cutters: the boys played soccer and had ultra-short haircuts; the girls had the exact same laughs, wore matching shades of Laura Mercier lip plumper, and carried Dooney & Bourke logo bags. If Aria squinted, she couldn’t tell one Typical Rosewood from another.
Inquiring minds want to know...
Ella picked up a mascara wand and leaned in to the mirror. “Are you sure you’re okay with me going on a date?”
“Of course.” But the truth was that Aria wasn’t sure how promising this date was going to be. The guy’s name was Wolfgang, for God’s sake. What if he spoke in rhymes? What if he was the guy who impersonated Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for the Hollis Conservatory’s Great Composers of History festival? What if he showed up in a doublet and hose and a powdered wig?

“Dad?” Her voice cracked slightly.
“Mmm?”
Aria leaned against the stone-topped island. “Can ghosts send text messages?”
Her father looked up, surprised and confused. “What’s a text message?”
She stuck her hand into an open box of Frosted Mini Wheats and pulled out a handful. “Never mind.”

“I know something really absurd we could do,” Noel said. “We could have this character drive a Navigator and, like, after a couple of beers, crash it into his duck pond. But he’s, like, fallen asleep at the wheel, so he doesn’t notice he’s in the duck pond until the next day. There could be ducks in the Navigator.”
Aria frowned. “How could we stage all that? It sounds impossible.”
“I don’t know.” Noel shrugged. “But that happened to me last year. And it was really absurd. And awesome.”

Aria smirked. Noel Kahn was one of the richest kids at school and the quintessential Rosewood boy, which basically made him Mike’s idol. And, irony of all ironies, he seemed to have a thing for Aria, which she was trying her hardest to squelch.

Sean was starting to remind her of the croque-monsieur she once ordered in Nice. At first glance, it looked like a plain, cookie-cutter grilled cheese, nothing special. But when she bit into it, the cheese was Brie and there were chopped-up portabello mushrooms hidden underneath. There was a lot more to it than it had appeared.
22. fejezet - You can't handle the truth
“I just don’t think it’s going to work out for us.”
“Why?”
“Because…” She paused, trying to figure out what she wanted to say. Because she wasn’t the typical Rosewood girl? Because whatever Sean liked about her, there was so much else about her not to like? She felt like shewas one of those wonder drugs that were always advertised on TV. The narrator would go through paragraphs of how the drug had helped millions of people, but at the very end of the commercial, he’d say really quietly that side effects include heart palpitations and an oily discharge. With her, it’d be like, Cool, kooky girl…but family baggage may result in psycho outbursts and randomly blowing snot on your expensive shirts.
