Blood Song (Lharmell 1.) 3 csillagozás

Rhiannon Hart: Blood Song

I wanted to turn but I was held captive by the song on the wind. I’m coming, I told the voices. Please, wait for me.

When her sister becomes betrothed to a prince in a northern nation, Zeraphina’s only consolations are that her loyal animal companions are by her side – and that her burning hunger to travel north is finally being sated.

Already her black hair and pale eyes mark her out as different, but now Zeraphina must be even more careful to keep her secret safe. Craving blood is not considered normal behaviour for anyone, let alone a princess. So when the king’s advisor, Rodden, seems to know more about her condition than she does, Zeraphina is determined to find out more.

Zeraphina must be willing to sacrifice everything if she’s to uncover the truth – but what if the truth is beyond her worst nightmares?

Rémálom P>!
Rhiannon Hart: Blood Song

We were two sides of the same coin: she of the day and I of the night.

‘Do you think she really needs us?’
‘If we ask to leave, what are the chances she’ll throw us on the fire?’ I asked. ‘But then again, I don’t see why I have to be here –’
Lilith gripped my arm. ‘If you leave me with her I’ll make my new husband find you a saggy old duke to marry. One with warts,’ she hissed.

Lilith and I hung out the carriage windows and gawked at it until Renata dragged us back.
‘Act unimpressed,’ she told us. ‘You’re supposed to be princesses for goodness’ sake, not country bumpkins.’

‘What if he’s an absolute troll?’ she hissed, looking warily at Renata’s back.
‘Well,’ I whispered, ‘either you marry him and have a tribe of little trolls, or you’ll have to fake your own death. Because Mother’s not letting you get out of this alive, is she?’

Then I remembered what Renata had said about protocol. Maybe it was written in stone that arrogant jerks had to lead the younger sisters of future queens of the nation through to dinner.
It was rather hard on younger sisters, I thought.

I got a bit of miscellaneous meat for him, hoping it wasn’t dolphin or unicorn.

‘Oh, Fina, he’s perfect! So handsome and so charming.’
‘A handsome and charming prince. How very original of him.’

‘It’s orange juice,’ she said.
‘I can see that,’ I muttered, swiping my hair out of my eyes. ‘What if I want red juice, or blue juice?’
‘It’s not named for its colour, you silly girl. It’s named after the fruit. Oranges.’

Lilith hung in the doorway, keeping away from the storm that was about to break but curious just the same. I’d be curious too if I was about to see my sister flayed alive.

I formed a thought-picture of Leap twitching his ears with my mind and sent it to him with something that I hoped seemed like ‘please’ tacked on the end. Leap looked at me, wide-eyed, and his ears twitched. I laughed delightedly.
‘That was very polite,’ said Rodden. ‘Almost made me want to twitch mine.’
