Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? was published in 1968. Grim and foreboding, even today it is a masterpiece ahead of its time.
By 2021, the World War had killed millions, driving entire species into extinction and sending mankind off-planet. Those who remained coveted any living creature, and for people who couldn't afford one, companies built incredibly realistic simulacrae: horses, birds, cats, sheep. . .
They even built humans.
Emigrees to Mars received androids so sophisticated it was impossible to tell them from true men or women. Fearful of the havoc these artificial humans could wreak, the government banned them from Earth. But when androids didn't want to be identified, they just blended in.
Rick Deckard was an officially sanctioned bounty hunter whose job was to find rogue androids, and to retire them. But cornered, androids tended to fight back, with deadly results.

Népszerű értékelések
Izgalmas felütés és kalandos folytatás, a vége előtt nagy megpihenés és filozófikus mondanivalók részletes taglalása – egészen kellemes klisé, értem, miért lett kultusza. Az alapötlet is jó, mi különböztethet meg egy embert egy robottól, amikor a technika már minden tud és mindenhová kifejlődött – igen, maradt egy kis emóció. Az érzések a másik fél iránt nem mindig programozhatóak, ezen megy a „vita” – nálam meg felbukkant a kérdés, ha az együttérzőképesség alapján szelektálnak a földiek, mármint hogy az nincsen az androidoknak, vagy nem eléggé sok, akkor hogyan képesek ők ott öldösni a Marson, ami miatt a Földre kellett menekülniük. Vagy ez a két fajta érzelem nem egyforma? A szerelem mint olyan, szintén a kérdésözön közepén van, na vajon ez miféle dolog lehet robotok között, kérdeztem az elején, később meg rájöttem, eléggé földi dolog ez is :))
Kellemes kis sci-fi, hasznos volt elolvasni, az andy szó meg külön a kedvencem lett.
Az elmefilozófia és vallásfilozófiai részek teljes megértéséhez megvárom a filozófia phd-s barátomat, hogy elolvassa újra (elmefilozófiával foglalkozik most). Dicket továbbra is fogok olvasni, ez volt az első angolul, az első 10 oldalon keresztül (kb, mert Kindlen nem tudom, hogy hol voltak oldalhatárok) az amúgy teljesen érthető nyelvezetbe belezavartak az általa kitalált szavak (belezavarást úgy értem, hogy megtorpantottak, hogy most akkor ez létező szó, vagy csak ő használja valamire, csak ebben a világban…). A 4 csillag azért lett, mert a Kizökkent idő tőle a kedvencem.
Philip K. Dick minden általam ismert műve zseniális, ez is. A Szárnyas fejvadász talán többek által ismert filmadaptációja, a könyv meglepően másról szól. Nagyon jó és angolul is jól érthető, még a nyelvet kevésbé ismerők számára (mint én ) is.
Na hát huh. A szerző többi könyvéhez hasonlóan rövid idő alatt el lehetne olvasni, de mindig meg kell állni és végiggodolnia világ nagy hibáit. Öszzereszteném a szerzőt Orwell-el.

'But what?'
Isidore said, 'We can't win.'
'Why not?' The girl stepped into the hall, closing the door behind her; arms folded self-consciously before her small high breasts she faced him, eager to understand. Or so it appeared to him, anyhow. She was at least listening.
'No one can win against kipple,' he said, 'except temporarily and maybe in one spot, like in my apartment I've sort of created a stasis between the pressure of kipple and nonkipple, for the time being. But eventually, I'll die or go away, and then the kipple will again take over. It's a universal principle operating throughout the universe; the entire universe is moving toward a final state of total, absolute kipple-ization.' He added, 'Except of course for the upward climb of Wilbur Mercer.'
